How to find angle between two side by Measuring Tape ? / How to determine angle by Measuring Tape ?
Angles are the geometric figure that is made up of two lines/ two rays that share a common end point the common end point is known Vertex, Measuring angle accurately plays a very crucial role in construction industry whether it is a construction, Carpenter project or in any Engineering Projects to ensure that the project is going well and as per requirement, Perfect angles gives us the perfect outcomes and are in align to each other, in this Blog we will measure the angle between two sides by help of measuring tape, we can find the angle between two sides require a understanding of trigonometric functions like Sin, Cos, Tan, Etc. Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with the relationships between the sides and angles of triangles in X-Y plane or 2-D Plane.
the three main trigonometric functions are:
- Sin (sin): Opposite side / Hypotenuse
- Cosine (cos): Adjacent side / Hypotenuse
- Tangent (tan): Opposite side / Adjacent side
Material Needed :
- Measuring Tape
- Chalk powder / POP
- 2 Person
- Plain land surface
For measuring angle between two side of Measuring tape we need to follow these Steps :
Step 01:
Let’s Consider a plain surface or a plain land and mark Three point A, B & C on a side of that plain or plain land as Shown in image below, after marking to the position mark the angle between them,
here, θ is the angle between two line and we will find this angle without using any instrument,

Step 02 :
Draw a line AB & BC over the ground or in plain by using Chalk powder/ Pop. as shown above picture
Step 03 :
Let’s measure 12M over the line BC and mark point D on it as shown in figure below
and, Draw a Perpendicular line to BC at point D. the line intersect line BA at point E.
Measure the distance DE by using the tape. Let imagine the measured distance is 8m.

Step 04 :
To draw the perpendicular line DE, we can follow the 3-4-5 method. it is a very famous method in civil engineering you can learn this process easily please go though this blog by Clicking Here!!!
Step 05 :
Now,
tan Ө = [opposite side / adjacent side.]
Ө = tan⁻¹[opposite side / adjacent side.]
= tan⁻¹[side DE / side BD]
= tan⁻¹[8 / 12]
Ө = 33.69°
Here the angle between AB & BC is 33.69° .
Hence, by following these steps you can find the angle between two points.
