What is BBS (Bar Bending Schedule)? Uses of BBS ? & Advantage of BBS ?
What is BBS (Bar Bending Schedule)
BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) is the detailed and accurate calculation of total steel required in building or in any RCC Civil Engineering Structure, It provide the detailed list and information about the Type, Size, Quantity and Placement of steel in any structure. It is also known as Reinforcement Schedule or Rebar Schedule.
A Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) is a group of documents that provide a detailed information about reinforcement (rebars) which is to be used in RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) Structures like a Building Bridges, House or any other civil engineering structures, BBS plays a vital role and BBS is the essential part of the construction process as it determine the shape, size and placement in a structure. BBS is prepared by a Civil Engineer or by a Structural Engineer based on structural drawing and design specification as per drawing, BBS includes information about the Diameter and location of each rebars, Number of rebar required, Length of a rebar, Shape and Size of bar, Spacing and hooks between rebars.
The main purpose of BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) is to give and ensure the reinforcement steel is used effectively in the civil engineering structures, BBS helps us to minimize the wastage of reinforcement steel which leads to manage the construction cost, BBS also helps us to insure the Structure meets the design requirement for strength and durability of a civil engineering structures
Basics of BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) : .
Particular | Result |
Standard Length of Steel Bar / Reinforcement Bar | 12 M or 40′ |
Weight of bar (1m Length) | (Dia of Bar)*2/162 |
Density of Steel | 7850 Kg/m3 |
Important Usage of Bar Bending Schedule
- Material Estimation : BBS (Bar bending Schedule) gives us the estimation and quantity of reinforcement steel required in a project, which gives us the idea in budgeting processes.
- Quality Assurance : BBS (Bar bending Schedule) helps to ensure the type and quality of steel used in specific design of building/ Structure & helps to maintain the safety in project.
- Construction Guidance: BBS (Bar bending Schedule) helps the workers as a reference and guidance for placing reinforcement correctly in construction also ensure that the structure is build according to design.
- Cost Estimation : BBS (Bar bending Schedule) gives the estimated cost of reinforcement steel in overall construction project.
Advantages of BBS (Bar Bending Schedule)
- Reduces Wastage ( BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) reduces the wastage of rebars which ultimately reduces the cost of construction)
- Accuracy and Precision ( BBS gives us accurate cutting length and precision while rebar cutting which reduces the wastage of reinforcement)
- Time-Saving ( as we have the cutting length of reinforcement we have the data of cutting of different rebars and size of rebars which saves the time of construction and give the project to client before the time of handover)
- Ease of Inspection ( as we have all data of BBS we can inspect and verify the Diameter and location of each rebars, Number of rebar required, Length of a rebar, Shape and Size of bar, Spacing and hooks between rebars.)
- Documentation (a proper documentation is provided about the reinforcement which is to be used in the construction projects)
- Design Verification
