What is Wall Footing Foundation ?
Wall footing foundation is a foundation that is used to support a wall which is typically made of bricks and mortar it is designed to distribute the weight of a wall evenly across the ground, which provide the structure stability and prevent setting or shifting of wall over time.
Calculate the width and depth of wall footing foundation ?
Factors we need to keep in mind for designing the foundation is :
- Soil condition
- Load Bearing capacity
- Structural requirement
- Wall Width (300 mm)

Here ,
GL – Ground Level,
PL – Plinth Level
1. Concrete Bed :
The Width of Concrete Bed
=3T = [3 x 300 mm] ; = 900 mm
The Thickness of concrete bed should not be less than 200 mm.
Extra length of concrete bed : [ 900 mm – 750 mm]
= 150 mm , Offset both Side = 750 \2 = 75 mm
2. Width of Ist Footing :
The width of first brick footing = 2.5 T
= [2.5 x 300 mm] ; = 750 mm
Depth of 1st footing :
=[(3T -200mm)/2]
=[(3×300 -200mm)/2]
=[700 mm /2] = 350 mm
the depth of the footing should be equal for both 1st and 2nd step footing
3. Width of 2nd footing
The width of second brick footing = 2 T
= [2 x 300 mm] ; = 600 mm
The Depth of 2nd footing = the depth of 1st footing
= 350 mm
4. Plinth Wall
The Width of Plinth Wall = 1.5 T
= [1.5 x 300 mm] ; = 450 mm
We keep the depth of plinth wall between 450 mm to 650 mm depending upon site condition and soil condition.
5. Depth of Wall Footing Foundation
The depth of wall Footing Foundation Should be at least 450 mm and according to the Formula 3T
Depth = 3T
= [3 x 300 mm ] ; = 900 mm
NOTE : The offset of all the steps should be equally distributed on both the sides and equal depth on both side .
